Polyline Tool in AutoCAD
A polyline is a connected sequence of line segments created as a single object. You can create straight line segments, arc segments, or a combination of the two.
It works same as LINE TOOL.
Some reasons you may choose to use polylines include the following:
  • Vertices remain joined even after grip editing
  • Absolute line width (as an alternative to relative line weight) that can be constant or tapered across a segment
  • Move and copy a polyline as a unit
  • Easily create rectangles and polygons as single objects
  • Smart application of non-continuous line types across vertices
  • Easy extrusion for 3D solids in AutoCAD
Draw polylines with straight or curved segments. Define the width for the polyline segments and taper the width across the segment. Draw polygons specifying the number of sides and size.

Draw a Polyline with Straight Segments

  1. Click Home tabDraw panelPolyline Find
  2. Specify the first point of the polyline.
  3. Specify the endpoint of the first segment.
  4. Continue specifying segment endpoints as needed.
  5. Press Enter to end, or enter c to close the polyline.
Note: To start a polyline at the endpoint of the last polyline drawn, start the command again and press Enter at the Specify Start Point prompt.

Draw a Wide Polyline

  1. Click Home tabDraw panelPolyline Find
  2. Specify the first point of the polyline.
  3. Enter w (Width)
  4. Enter the starting width of the segment.
  5. Specify the ending width of the segment using one of the following methods:
    • To create a segment of equal width, press Enter.
    • To create a tapering or increasing segment, enter a different width.
  6. Specify the endpoint of the segment.
  7. Continue specifying segment endpoints as needed.
  8. Press Enter to end, or enter c to close the polyline.

Draw a Polyline with Straight and Curved Segments

  1. Click Home tabDraw panelPolyline Find
  2. Specify the first point of the polyline.
  3. Specify the endpoint of the first segment.
  4. Switch to Arc mode by entering a (Arc) at the Command prompt.
  5. Return to Line mode by entering L (Line).
  6. Specify additional segments as needed.
  7. Press Enter to end, or enter c to close the polyline.

Draw a Rectangle

  1. Click Home tabDraw panelRectangle Find
  2. Specify the first corner of the rectangle.
  3. Specify the diagonal corner of the rectangle.

Draw a Polygon

  1. Click Home tabDraw panelPolygon Find
  2. Enter the number of sides.
  3. Specify the center of the polygon.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • Enter i to specify a polygon inscribed within a circle.
    • Enter c to specify a polygon circumscribed about a circle.
  5. Enter the radius length.

Draw a Polygon by Specifying One Edge

  1. Click Home tabDraw panelPolygon Find
  2. Enter the number of sides.
  3. Enter e (Edge).
  4. Specify the start point for one polygon segment.
  5. Specify the endpoint of the polygon segment.

Draw a Boundary Polyline

  1. Click Home tabDraw panelBoundary Find
  2. In the Boundary Creation dialog box, Object Type list, select Polyline.
  3. Click Pick Points.  Specify points within each area to form a boundary polyline for each.
Note: Each area must be enclosed.
  4. Press Enter to create the boundary polylines and end the command.
Note: The boundary polyline overlaps the objects used to create it.

How to Draw a Rectangle using Line Tool

Click on the Line tool first
For example, we want to draw a 10 * 5 size rectangle. How to set the units we will discuss later.
next specify the first point in the sheet then press 10 enter
It doesn't matter how much you move the cursor simply press 10 enter. to specify width you have to move your mouse direction towards downwards. don't click anywhere, simply move downwards. The Line be automatically break.

Like this way complete the rectangle. to finish line command press ESC button.

LINE TOOL IN AUTOCAD

You will see the Line tool in the draw menu in the HOME screen.
or you can press L enter.
First specify the first point in the sheet. then use your mouse to give the direction and enter the dimension of the line.
To draw a straight line you have to first click on the ORTHO MODE option. It is located at the bottom of the sheet. or simply press F8.
To end Line Command press enter or esc button.

Specify first point
Sets the starting point for the line. Click a point location. With object snaps or grid snap turned on, the points will be placed precisely. You can also enter coordinates. If instead, you press Enter at the prompt, a new line starts from the endpoint of the most recently created line, polyline, or arc. If the most recently created object is an arc, its endpoint defines the starting point of the line. The line is tangent to the arc.
Specify next point
Specifies the endpoint of the line segment. You can also use polar and object snap tracking together with direct distance entry.

Welcome to auto cad tutorial

This is my 1st post here. Here I will discuss about the most important software specially for civil engineering, that is AUTO CAD.. I will discuss how to use the tools and commands. Hope it will be helpful for you.😊
